Animal Husbandry

The Diya Foundation has made remarkable strides in improving the health and hygiene conditions of livestock while simultaneously enhancing the livelihoods of marginalized families. By introducing a cost-effective shed concept and providing comprehensive training on best practices, we empowered 1200 families engaged in livestock rearing, specifically in piggery, goattery, poultry, and duckery. This transformative initiative has enabled these families to earn an additional annual income ranging from Rs. 50,000 to Rs. 70,000, establishing small livestock rearing as a sustainable source of economic prosperity.

Enhancing Livestock Rearing Practices:

Recognizing the crucial role that small livestock plays in supporting marginal families, the Diya Foundation developed an innovative low-cost shed concept. These sheds effectively address the health and hygiene concerns associated with livestock rearing, ensuring the well-being and productivity of the animals. By adopting these sheds, livestock rearers have created a conducive environment that safeguards the health of their animals, leading to improved productivity and higher-quality products.

Training and Capacity Building:

In addition to the provision of low-cost sheds, the Diya Foundation has prioritized training and capacity building among livestock rearers. Recognizing the importance of adopting modern and sustainable practices, the foundation conducts periodic training sessions to equip rearers with the knowledge and skills necessary for effective livestock management. These sessions cover a wide range of topics, including animal nutrition, disease prevention, breeding techniques, and overall farm management. By empowering rearers with up-to-date knowledge and best practices, the foundation ensures the long-term viability and success of their livestock enterprises.

Socio-Economic Impact

The impact of Diya Foundation’s initiative on the livelihoods of 1200 families engaged in livestock rearing has been profound. By adopting the low-cost shed concept and implementing the acquired knowledge from training sessions, these families have experienced a significant increase in their annual income. The additional earnings range between Rs. 50,000 and Rs. 70,000, providing a substantial financial boost that positively impacts their quality of life.

Furthermore, the livestock rearing activities facilitated by the foundation act as “ATMs” for these marginalized families, ensuring a reliable and sustainable income source. The newfound financial stability empowers these families to meet their basic needs, access education and healthcare services, and invest in other income-generating activities. Consequently, the Diya Foundation’s intervention plays a pivotal role in breaking the cycle of poverty and creating opportunities for socio-economic upliftment.
